Teaching Agency National scholarship fund for teachers
Are you supporting young people in a school or similar setting?
The University of Northampton has a range of continuing (CPD) and Postgraduate Professional Development (PPD) opportunities.
Teachers, in England, that have Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or members of the Institute for Learning (IFL) with QTLS may be successful in achieving part or full funding up to £3,500 through the Teaching Agency National Scholarship fund for teachers.
Eligible settings are:
- Maintained schools (including Special Schools)
- Non-maintained Special Schools
- City Technology Colleges
- Academies
- Free Schools
- Pupil Referral Units (PRUs)
- Sixth form colleges
- Local Authority peripatetic (centrally employed) teachers with QTS will also be eligible
Round 2 scholarship scheme
Round two of the scholarship scheme focuses on four priority areas for teachers wishing to develop or strengthen their subject knowledge and skills in:
- Mathematics
- English
- Science
- Special Educational Needs SEN/D
Where the activity takes place over more than one academic year the award may be split, with separate payments in each financial year, but will not exceed £3500 over the duration of study. Current funding is only available until 31 March 2014.
Scholarship Application Process
Scholarship Application Process and the awarding of the scholarship is through the Teaching Agency:
- Applications open: 30 April 2012
- Applications close: Midnight on the 17 May 2012
- Scholarships awarded and unsuccessful applicants informed: 24 August 2012

CPD and PPD opportunities at The University of Northampton
The University of Northampton offers a range of CPD and PPD opportunities, including:
- General Masters Level Study with Pathways in Mathematics, Early Years and a named MA in SEN and Inclusion
- OCR Dyslexia courses at level 5 and 7 at Northampton or East Midlands subject to recruitment
- Bespoke courses for individual schools or specific modules on offer for teachers/students across the East Midlands at a range of venues subject to recruiting sufficient numbers

Ideally, the Teaching Agency (TA) is looking for applications for Masters level development. However, they recognise that other highly valuable CPD opportunities for knowledge development are available and applicants undertaking our very successful OCR Dyslexia course have been successful in gaining a round one scholarship.
