Post compulsory education and training for the lifelong learning sector
Post compulsory education and training within the School of Education offers courses in Initial Teacher Training for those working as teachers in the Lifelong Learning sector. This sector includes Colleges of Further Education, Work based Training, Private training providers and many others. The courses are designed to meet the requirements introduced in 2007 and are endorsed by Standards Verification UK.
Courses
We offer two courses:
- Certificate in Teaching and Learning in the Lifelong Learning Sector
- Professional Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
The Certificate course is at Level 5 and aimed at non-graduates and the Professional Graduate Certificate is at Level 6 and aimed at graduates. The two courses are similar in terms of content and delivery, with the Professional Graduate Certificate assessed at the higher level.
Course content
Both courses have similar content and consist of six modules.
Module 1 Professional practice
This module is concerned with teaching and its organisation
Module 2 Reflective Practice
This module develops understanding of the importance of reflective practice in teaching and learning and assesses development as a reflective practitioner.
Module 3 Individual Learning Planning
This module introduces the importance of the ILP process in the contemporary learning environment
Module 4 Advanced Professional Practice
This module continues to develop skills in teaching and its organisation
Module 5 Critical Reflection for Practice in the Lifelong Learning Sector
This module looks at reflection in the wider educational arena.
Module 6 Individual Development Planning
This module is concerned with longer term personal needs analysis and development planning.
Course delivery
The courses are delivered at our four partner colleges: Northampton College, Moulton College, Peterborough College and South Leicestershire College. Delivery is part time over two years for those already teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector.
Course assessment
The course is assessed by a variety of methods such as teaching observations, presentations, seminars and written assignments. There are no formal written examinations.
