Defining Technology Enhanced Learning

JISC (2010) defines a Technology Enhanced Learning culture where the wide range of learners (e.g. full-time, part-time, professionals, overseas) are provided with a  robust technology environment which provides the learning opportunities wherever the learner chooses. This builds on the previous descriptions of e-learning as provided by HEFCE (2005) and the subsequent update in HEFCE (2009).

It is within these frameworks that The University of Northampton has moved from earlier, technology-focused definitions of e-learning, to a more learner-centred approach focusing on enhancing the learner experience through the appropriate use of technology.

'.......the use of the technology itself is increasingly not a distinguishing factor for organisations, but rather the quality of that use and the way it advances the goals of a change resilient organisation become essential to success.'

Marshall, 2010

The University provides a wide range of support to staff and students to maximise the benefits of technology and ensure that these are implemented in a pedagogically focused manner to maximise quality delivery for students.
