Symposium on Lift and Escalator Technologies

The Symposium will be held as a part of the 2012-13 Inaugural Lift Engineering School in Northampton scheduled for the week starting 24th September 2012. The Lift Engineering programme offered at the University of Northampton includes postgraduate courses at the MSc/ MPhil/ PhD levels that involve a study of the advanced principles and philosophy underlying Lift and Escalator Technologies, and aims to provide a detailed, academic study of engineering and related management issues, for persons employed in lift making and allied industries. At the undergraduate level the Foundation Degree and HNC in Lift Engineering as well as the BTEC Professional Diploma in Engineering (Lift Technology) courses have been introduced.

The Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) is the professional body that exists to support the Science, Art and Practice of building services engineering.  The CIBSE Lifts Group is a specialist forum for members who have an interest in vertical transportation.  The group meets regularly to promote technical standards, training and education, publications and various aspects of the vertical transportation industry. The CIBSE Lifts Group directs the development of CIBSE Guide D: Transportation systems in buildings, the de facto reference on vertical transportation.

The Symposium will bring together experts from the field of vertical transportation and will offer an opportunity for graduates and final year students of the Lift Engineering programme at the University of Northampton to present papers on the subject of their research projects. There will also be keynote addresses by international industry experts invited by the CIBSE Lifts Group.
