Module content
This module will enable students to gain an understanding of the holistic development of children and young people. They will gain an appreciation of how children and young people learn, the role of health promotion, including sexual health, risk taking, substance misuse, the importance of healthy lifestyles and the impacts of choices made by children and young people on their adult life. They will have time to consider contemporary policy and guidance, particularly important with a new Government. The module also explores key theories from health, development, education, sociology and psychology.
This module forms part of the BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth and offers students the opportunity to study a module in their specialised area alongside others with a similar interest. They will be particularly pertinent for support staff who are not necessarily directly associated with teaching and learning, but offer support within the Children's workforce and education establishments in roles such as Parent Support Advisors (PSAs) or Mentors.
