Employability Mentoring Scheme
What is Mentoring?
- Mentoring is a relationship usually between a younger, less experienced person (the Mentee) and a more mature, experienced person who can inspire and motivate the young person to succeed (the Mentor).
What is this Scheme?
- This pilot programme will support students with the transition from university to work and aims to ensure students are equipped to gain graduate level employment
- Mentors are recruited from members of The University of Northampton Alumni who have been trained to work with students to support them in this transition
- Mentors provide advice on graduate recruitment schemes, searching and applying for suitable jobs, writing CVs, interview skills, and also provide an insight into the world of work and a particular industry
What is involved?
- This programme will run from February to June 2012
- Mentors are matched to work one on one with the mentees; career interests, course of study and gender are all considered for the matching process
- After mentors and mentees had received their training, they meet at least once a month, at the mentor's place of work
- Mentors also provided support between meetings through email and phone contact
- An introductory meeting brings all mentors and mentees together at the start of the programme and this will conclude with an end of year celebration event
- Mentees are then required to provide an end of year report
