8. Bite-size PDP activities

NUPAD Personal Development Planning, MyPAD e-portfolio

A bank of tried and tested PDP activities to use with your students:

  • As tutorial preparation
  • In group tutorials/learning sets
  • To make skills outcomes more explicit
  • To help students recognise transferability
  • To encourage reflective professional practice
  • To support self presentation e.g. placement preparation

1. Graduate skills for employability

Eight bite-size activities lasting from five to twenty-five minutes to use with your students.

Many of the activities link directly with assessment items such as those involving research skills, project planning, or presentation. The activities help students link academic tasks with transferable skills valued in the workplace, and encourage peer support for the processes of review and self-reflection.

2. Reflective practice for employability

Eight reflective activities lasting from five to twenty-five minutes to encourage students in reflective thinking, writing and practice.

The activities can be used to stimulate discussion in group tutorials, or as part of peer feedback and evaluation. sharing in pairs or small groups is an excellent way of reinforcing self-awareness and reflective practice.

3. Self-presentation for employability

A set of twelve bite-size PDP support activities lasting between five and thirty minutes.

These activities will encourage articulation of skills evidence, the art of telling personal stories and effective self-presentation for selection and progression purposes. Many encourage peer support for personal reflection and planning, while others will stimulate additional activity such as CV refinement or careers research.
