Law

Undergraduate

The University of Northampton offers a three year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree. This is a qualifying Law degree (QLD) and is recognised by the Law Society and the Bar Council as satisfying the academic stage of training for those who wish to enter the legal profession.

The University also runs a Law (two-year intensive) degree  for those students who wish to qualify in a shorter period of time. This also has QLD status.

A BA/BSc (Hons) Law (Joint Honours) route is also available, allowing students to study Law alongside another subject. This is particularly useful for students who are considering a career in a law related profession, such as the criminal justice service, non-governmental organisations, local and central government, or in the business sector.

Students studying Law at The University of Northampton benefit from teaching which examines law in its wider context and takes into account how different concepts relate to one another.

The Law courses are taught by well-qualified staff who have strong links with legal research and practical aspects of law. Tutors include solicitors and a barrister. Two tutors sit as tribunal chairs, and various tutors are members of national and international committees (see the staff profiles for further information).

The University offers students the opportunity to experience the workings of a courtroom environment with an on-campus Moot Room where students can take part in mock trials. Students are also able to gain experience through modules that include prison visits and client interviews.

Law students at The University of Northampton are also encouraged to gain experience through placements and volunteering. Student Services offer students support in writing letters of application and developing a strong CV and interview skills.

The University has strong links with the Oxford Institute of Legal Practice, who guarantee places on their Legal Practice Course for graduates from The University of Northampton.

Postgraduate

At postgraduate level, the University offers three LLM courses, which are available on a full-time or part-time basis.
