History postgraduate courses

As a vibrant research community, we offer a range of opportunities for post-graduate study and research, an MA Programme and a wealth of expertise in PhD supervision.

Our MA programme in Social and Cultural History provides the opportunity to study particular aspects of history in greater depth, with teaching provided by full-time members of staff who are research-active experts in their fields. The programme also offers an excellent grounding for research degrees.

The number of PhD students studying history at Northampton has grown considerably in recent years, and forms an important part of the Division's research strategy. Our students are working on topics as diverse as eighteenth-century material culture, First World War Military Service Tribunals, and medical provision in nineteenth-century Poor Law Unions. We also offer a wide range of expertise in PhD supervision, with particular strengths in the history of war and in social and cultural history.
