Urban Affairs

The Northampton Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) is a multi-disciplinary, cross-University institute, based within the School of Social Sciences at The University of Northampton.

The NIUA aims to research, engage with and critically analyse the development of the growing Milton Keynes South Midlands (MKSM) region and wider issues of sustainable development in the UK and elsewhere.

The NIUA offers a foundation degree in Sustainable Communities, as well as consultancy services to public, private and community partners in Northamptonshire and beyond.

Within the University, the NIUA can call upon expertise in urban and regional policy, environmental sustainable development, social enterprise, community cohesion, and health and crime prevention.

The NIUA incorporates two affiliate centres, the Centre for Children and Youth and Northamptonshire Voluntary Youth Action.

For more information about the NIUA, please contact Chris Durkin.
