What do our students say?

Delga Kavulok: Assistant Domestic Services Manager

Having spent my career in Cleaning, (from Hotels, to Halls of residence to Academic space) spanning approximately 21 years, I wish I had had the opportunity to undertake these certificates earlier. My main aim was to use the certificate as an easy pathway for The Cleaning Management Degree that was run by the University of Northampton. As part of this career pathway I am currently undertaking the Infection Control Certificate.

The Cleaning, Enterprise and Law Certificate awoke in me a passion for cleaning that I had not realised existed, the certificate allowed me to understand all the legal requirements and background to all aspects of our work, from staff, health and safety, to chemical choice, to the impact on the environment. The subject matter was interesting, thought provoking and stimulating.

I would recommend the certificate to any Cleaning Manager, or anyone with a passion for cleaning. The tutors at the University of Northampton are supportive and the learning pack is instructive and easy to follow. I feel proud of the work I completed and wish I had had the knowledge gained from the course years ago.

I wanted to do the course because I felt it gave the cleaning industry a higher profile than it gets at the moment. I also wanted to end my career on a high and felt this met my needs. I only wish it had been available to me years ago. I am sure it would have helped me advance a lot faster. As I am now retired I still have a keen interest in some of the subjects such as the environment and try to keep up with the latest developments.

Stuart Mcloughlin: Site Caretaker

The scholarship funding has been invaluable. It has enabled me to purchase books and ICT equipment to support my studies. It has also provided financial support towards my tuition fees.

Moira Bailey, House Keeping Manager

I completed the Foundation Degree in Environmental Cleaning Management with Northampton University in 2011. I found the experience both rewarding and challenging, I had been working in Management in the Cleaning Industry for 20 years without formal qualifications and I found the distance learning method and course content, suited both my professional and personal life allowing me a good work/life balance whilst studying.

The course content was varied, interesting and relevant to my working life allowing me to apply the theory to my real life work experience in a practical way. The knowledge I have gained has given me confidence professionally and I believe improved my overall management skills.

The Environmental Cleaning Management Course allowed me to return to learning in a practical and informative way. My experience has been a positive one and encouraged me to continue studying and am currently working towards topping up my foundation degree to a full degree.

The Cleaning course gave me a deeper and wider understanding of the cleaning industry and the problems and factors which effect it. This increased knowledge has allowed me to undertake my role as a cleaning trainer and assessor far more effectively and to pass on to my learners a far greater depth of knowledge.

Crispen Nyatsuro: OCS

The course has given me depth of understanding in all aspects of the cleaning industry. I wanted to gain a higher education qualification that I could apply to my work. I have gained recognition  from my employers and as a direct result of study I have been promoted from supervisor to an area co-ordinator with more senior responsibilities.   The company has benefitted from the training I carry out with the staff, and feedback from staff indicates that my new skills set are appropriate and appreciated. The course has been excellent and lecturers have been supportive throughout.

I had been looking to do some form of formal training in infection control to provide me with the knowledge and a qualification to enhance my role and carry out my work professionally. The idea of distance learning suited my needs allowing me to fit the course around a heavy work schedule. It was hard work at times and you need to motivate yourself. I have gained a lot of confidence personally through undertaking and passing a course like this. This has enabled me to feel at ease with healthcare professionals and enable me to pass on the benefits.
