Human Bioscience
Human Bioscience can be studied at The University of Northampton on many levels. Our courses run from undergraduate provision, through to masters level, and our staff supervise PhD students in a number of areas of interest. At undergraduate level students can study towards a single honours BSc (Hons) Human Bioscience degree, or combine it with other subjects in a Joint Honours programme. At postgraduate level, we run an MSc Human Biosciences programme.
The undergraduate Human Bioscience course at The University of Northampton allows students to study scientific aspects of health and disease, physiology, molecular biology, and biotechnology, whilst focusing on the prevention and treatment of disease.
Module options include human nutrition, genetics and microbiology. The degree gives students the opportunity to gain practical and transferable skills, as well as a deeper understanding of the human body.
Human Bioscience graduates can go on to work in areas such as the teacher training, pharmaceutical industry, biomedical research and healthcare science. Graduates can also apply to study medicine at postgraduate level (subject to eligibility) or apply to study for a masters degree on our MSc Human Bioscience programme.
The MSc in Human Bioscience allows students to further their knowledge in human aspects of biology, and indeed gain additional skills in laboratory and in silico. Typical modules include, Epidemiology, Infection control and Microbiology, Biomolecular Basis of Human Disease, Research Methods, and Dissertation. Optional modules can include choices such as Bioethics, Nutrition in a Global Context, Bioinformatics and alternatives from across the postgraduate provision at the University.
Our staff are research active, and as such we have a number of postgraduate students studying towards a PhD. These students work in our research labs and contribute to the overall output of the subject group.
