Interlibrary loans

Items that are not available within our own libraries can be borrowed from other libraries via the interlibrary loan service. It is possible to request books, journal articles, conference papers and proceedings, some masters theses, reports, standards and patents. Whatever category of information source you are interested in, you must make the request on our standard interlibrary loan forms.

To obtain a UK PhD thesis please use the British Library EThOS website.

Before making a request

• Check our catalogue  if your request is for a book, all our stock is included on the catalogue
• Check Find my Reference if your request is for a journal article  
• Check the Nursing Union List of Journals (NULJ) if your request is related to nursing, health or the medical field
• Make certain that the details are correct, legible and sufficiently full to identify the required item
• Check the language of the item you are requesting. This is particularly relevant with foreign journals or books
• Be selective and place requests early

How to make a request

Download an interlibrary request form and once complete, hand in at the Library.

You can choose to have your article request delivered direct to your PC via Secure Electronic Delivery (SED). To use this service you must download the British Library's test document. You should also read their FAQs.

Items to be submitted to Short Loan

Staff will also need to use copyright-cleared forms when requesting articles or book chapters to be placed in short loan. 

Copyright law at the moment does not allow us to accept an electronic signature, so the form must be printed off and sent to the Library.
