Course content
The course will be ideally suited to individuals who wish to take on challenges and problems, seek out and accept advice and see design as central to their existence.
The course covers visual, technical and commercial aspects of product design, all of which are essential considerations in the complete design of a product. These are delivered through studio-based, practical problem-solving activities, as well as traditional taught sessions. The course is vocational in its nature and ethos by preparing students for the world of work. Students in their final stage are able to negotiate and structure an individual major design project that enables them to present a final exhibition and portfolio of work.
Stage one
Provides an introduction to professional product design practice including taught sessions on CAD, model making, design drawing and communication consolidated by short appropriate projects supported by technical, commercial and social issues.
Stage two
Provides professional development of design skills and knowledge primarily through project work. This may include professional projects from local, national or international companies. Students are then asked to choose and complete a final major project.
