Two years full-time. Approved work-based learning may reduce the class contact hours. Direct progression to stage three via BA (Hons) Business and Management (top-up).

Entry requirements

Standard entry requirements apply. All students must attend an interview. Applicants should have a BTEC National, AVCE or one A level. Relevant work experience and training will be considered in addition to any formal qualifications. For the FdA, applicants must be in suitable part-time employment by the commencement of the course and interviews may be required. A typical offer would be around 120-140 UCAS tariff points.

Course content

This two-year course is a nationally recognised qualification in the UK offering a broad-based and practical set of business modules.

The HND is a traditional taught course of six modules per stage over two years. Throughout the programmes emphasis is placed on the development and assessment of practical skills relevant to a wide range of business careers. Assignments and activities undertaken are designed to simulate real world situations.

Stage one

In stage one core subjects include business, human resources, finance, marketing, enterprise and opportunity, and business in context.

Stage two

In stage two students build further on the modules studied in stage one. In addition, emphasis is placed on student competencies as well as knowledge, for example, management skills development and the use of computer packages in accounting.

A wide variety of assessment methods are employed on this programme including assignments, group work, presentations, projects and examinations.
