This course is designed for those for whom English is a second language and who have studied an English Language or Business English course to the level of a HND, Advanced Diploma or Chinese Dazhuan Diploma. You may not have studied enough business in your qualification to gain entry onto a Business and Management degree.

Course content

The course offers a very good balance between developing English language skills and knowledge of business. The Business Communication module uses topic areas to focus on the linguistic requirements in doing business and offers the opportunity to students to engage in effective communication in various business environments as well developing awareness of different cultural approaches in business situations and appropriate language demands. This comparison of business cultures is developed in greater detail in the Developing Cross Cultural Management Capability and Global Business Development modules. Broader aspects of business theories and application are reflected in the research project. This individual business project provides an opportunity to research a topic of interest to you. You will also be given the opportunity to improve your language accuracy and range in the Language module which will underpin the skills needed for your studies and improve your use of English.

Assessment

A variety of individual and group based assessments are used including: written reports, presentations, portfolios, creative project management, case studies, together with more formal assessment via examination and presentation.

Career opportunities

The individual with English as a Second Language studied to degree level will find career opportunities in many types of commercial and public sector organisations in their home country but also in others depending on immigration rules. Sectors of interest will include the tourism and travel industries, education, sales and promotion, charities, and governmental organisations.

    Fees quoted are for home and EU students commencing their course in the academic year 2012/13. Tuition fees are payable for each year of the course. The fees are subject to annual increases in subsequent academic years.
