The course offers a very good balance between developing English language skills and knowledge of business. The Business Communication module uses topic areas to focus on the linguistic requirements in doing business and offers the opportunity to students to engage in effective communication in various business environments as well developing awareness of different cultural approaches in business situations and appropriate language demands. In addition to English, you have a choice between the business pathway with the study of Developing Cross Culture Management Capability and Global Business Development; or tourism with Innovation in Tourism and Destination Management.  Broader aspects of business theories and application are reflected in the research project. This individual business project provides an opportunity to research a topic of interest to you. You will also be given the opportunity to improve your language accuracy and range in the Language module which will underpin the skills needed for your studies and improve your use of English.

Assessment

A variety of individual and group based assessments are used including: written reports, presentations, portfolios, creative project management, case studies, together with more formal assessment via examination and presentation.

Career opportunities

The individual with English as a Second Language studied to degree level will find career opportunities in many types of commercial and public sector organisations in their home country but also in others depending on immigration rules. Sectors of interest will include the tourism and travel industries, education, sales and promotion, charities, and governmental organisations.

    Fees quoted are for home and EU students commencing their course in the academic year 2013/14. Tuition fees are payable for each year of the course. The fees are subject to annual increases in subsequent academic years.

    Continuing 2012/13 'home' and EU, full time, undergraduate students  who commenced their current course prior to 1 September 2012

    will pay a full time fee of £3465 in 2013/14 provided they:

    - have not taken  break in study (other than the normal vacation period)

    - continue on the same mode of study

    Transferring from another UK university or college? If you are currently studying at another UK university or college in 2012/13 you may be eligible to pay fees under pre-2012 regulations. You will be asked to provide a letter from your current UK university confirming your study details in 2012/13 to enable us to confirm your tuition fee for 2013/14.     Students paying £3465 in 2013/14 may be eligible for the University of Northampton bursary of £500. Other criteria apply
