The top-up degree focuses on the context within which health and social problems arise and includes an in-depth examination of social care policy and contemporary health issues.

The degree also prepares students with key skills for working in health and social care sectors.

Applicants must have completed a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care or an equivalent higher education qualification.

Course content

The top-up degree consists of a Health and Social Care dissertation, a taught module on Social Change and Communities and two overarching health modules on Ethical Issues and Integrated Perspectives on Disease.

Special course features

A variety of teaching and learning approaches are utilised within this programme and include lectures, self-directed learning, seminars, group work and e-learning.

Ongoing tutorial support is also provided by course tutors and dissertation supervisors.

Assessment

A variety of assessment methods are utilised including case studies, presentations, portfolios, essays and one examination.

Career opportunities

The programme provides students with the knowledge and skills to enable them to undertake a range of health and social care roles in both community and formal settings.

In addition students have the opportunity to apply for graduate training in social work or nursing, or employment within the charitable or voluntary sectors.

Current 'Home' and EU undergraduate students: Information on 2012/13 tuition fees

Fees quoted are for home and EU students commencing their course in the academic year 2012/13. Tuition fees are payable for each year of the course. The fees are subject to annual increases in subsequent academic years.

Full time fees

£8500

Current 2011/12 'home' and EU, full time, undergraduate students  

will pay a full time fee of £3465 in 2012/13 provided they:

- have not taken  break in study (other than the normal vacation period)

- continue on the same mode of study

Full time students taking this course may be eligible for the University of Northampton Bursary 2012/12.

The following scholarships may be applicable:
