A two year programme for those working within the Human Resource Management (HRM) or Human Resource Development (HRD) field and wishing to develop their theoretical and practical knowledge, understanding and competence. Students enrol onto the PG Dip HRM for two years and have the option of 'topping-up' to a MA HRM by completing a dissertation in year three.

Entry requirements
The minimum entry requirements for the PG Dip will be a recognised and relevant graduate or postgraduate level professional qualification at Level 5/6 or higher and at least 12 months current working experience within a personnel/ HR department or related area. Applicants holding CPP, CTP, HNC/HND or Dip HE qualifications or their equivalent will also be considered for admission provided that they possess appropriate work experience and evidence of CPD. Applicants whose native language is not English must provide evidence of their English language capability at IELTS Level 6.5 or its equivalent.

Course content
The PG Dip HRM aims to develop understanding of the specialised knowledge, research evidence and practice of HRM within a range of organisational contexts, and to equip students with the analytical and diagnostic skills required of HR professionals. The programme will focus on HRM activities, strategies and plans that underpin sustainable organisational performance.
The programme provides a strong foundation in general business and management, with particular emphasis on understanding the strategic significance of HRM modules which develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and competencies required of effective HR professionals.
The programme starts with an extensive induction followed by study of core modules including 'HRM in Context', 'Leading, Managing and Developing People' and 'Investigating a Business Issue'.
Specialist HRM modules include 'Performance Management', 'Resourcing and Talent Management', 'Employment Relations' and 'Learning and Talent Development'. The programme also incorporates a number of workshops focused on the development of business and leadership skills and the skills of HR practice. For students wanting to complete the MA HRM, the final part of the programme is focused on the study of Research Methods and the production of an HRM/HRD related dissertation.
Special course features
This programme has been approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Europe's largest professional body supporting and developing those responsible for the management and development of people within organisations. The PG Dip HRM reflects and incorporates CIPD knowledge and competence requirements. Completing the PG Dip HRM will provide you with the underpinning knowledge required for Chartered CIPD membership. if you have the relevant experience you can then apply for a membership assessment based on your workplace activities and behaviours through the CIPD.

Career opportunities
The PG Dip HRM programme is aimed at those already in work, with recent relevant experience, and who are interested in their Continuous Professional Development (CPD). The PG Dip HRM opens the way for a career in HRM. Whilst it is possible to work in the HR field without a CIPD accredited qualification, increasingly employers are seeking individuals who are CIPD qualified or working towards a CIPD qualification. Many career opportunities are open only to CIPD members, both in the public sector and a range of commercial organisations.

Fees quoted are for home and EU students commencing their course in the academic year 2012/13. Tuition fees are payable for each year of the course. The fees are subject to annual increases in subsequent academic years.
