Entry requirements
Applicants should have a good single honours degree in Law or a Joint Honours degree with Law as the major component. Applicants who do not meet the standard entry requirements but have relevant professional and personal experience and the potential to achieve the academic standard are also encouraged to apply.
Those who have successfully completed the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course may be credited with having completed six modules and will be eligible for an LLM, on passing the research methodology and dissertation modules

Course content
This course will develop analytical, evaluative and research skills and provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the tensions that exist in the contemporary domestic and international legal framework.
Students will benefit from a dedicated team of lecturers who have commercial and professional law backgrounds, as well as substantial teaching experience on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
The course combines specialist instruction and examination with the completion of a piece of research on a topic of special interest.
Students generally study three or four modules in each semester, followed by the dissertation.

Typical modules
Students on the LLM in International Business Law will take the following:

Research Methods (two 10 credit modules)

Dissertation (60 credits)
An unnamed LLM will be awarded to a student who has successfully completed the research methods modules, dissertation and requisite number of law modules but where the modules studied do not include the compulsory modules required for either of the named awards.
To be awarded the LLM degree students must successfully complete the taught modules to a value of 100 credits at Master's level followed by the Research Methods course which is a further 20 credits and a dissertation which has a value of 60 credits making 180 credits in all.
Prior to undertaking the dissertation, all students must have successfully completed the Research Methods modules.
Students who complete 60 credits may be entitled to claim the award of Postgraduate Certificate and those who complete 120 credits may be entitled to claim the award of Postgraduate Diploma.

Assessment
Formal course assessment is centred on module essays and submission of a dissertation, although the precise method of assessment may vary across modules. In addition, students may be informally assessed in a number of different ways, including individual presentations.
Methods of study
The LLM is offered for full-time study over 12 months.
Students typically study three or four modules in each semester. This is followed by the dissertation period of 18 weeks.

Fees quoted are for home and EU students commencing their course in the academic year 2012/13. Tuition fees are payable for each year of the course. The fees are subject to annual increases in subsequent academic years.
