Course content

The course is a thoroughly comprehensive marketing course but integrated into all realms and remits of the sporting environment.

The Business School has developed a new field of leisure to reflect the increased interest in Sports Marketing and career opportunities in related disciplines such as events, leisure and PR.

The ethos of the course is set in applied marketing within sports contexts to develop specialist and skilled practitioners. The course of study therefore will be equally divided across both disciplines with student choices dictating where the emphasis and priority study will reside.

Stage one

Emergence of sports marketing concepts set in a new sporting cultural collusion, with emphasis on modules such as introduction to marketing communications, principles and foundations of marketing, as well as looking at new trends in sporting consumerism and the development of sports business.

Stage two

At stage two the focus moves towards looking at the frameworks for strategic sports marketing and a directional emphasis on professional practice. The course will offer students programmes which will give them an insight into this practice from both a sporting and marketing perspective.

Stage three

A distinct feature of stage three is the student experience with sports and marketing real-life assignments and projects. This can include both the written academic route of a specialised dissertation as well as a 'live' client project or creative marketing assignment.

Special course features

  • Gain credit for work-based projects
  • Involvement with project management in areas such as PR, events, corporate hospitality and broad sports marketing environments
  • Opportunities to work on clients' briefs
  • The course is taught by specialists from both marketing and sports disciplines
