Standard entry requirements apply. A typical offer would be 140-160 UCAS tariff points to include a grade D or equivalent. We welcome international applications and applications from students with a range of non-traditional educational or professional qualifications. Applicants are expected to demonstrate an interest in sports coaching and development.

Course content
The course will allow students to focus on equine sports or human sports and will consider the impact of a wide range of factors on ability to perform in elite sports.
This course combines practical and theoretical study. Students will study a core of modules including topics such as coaching theory and practice, sports psychology, human anatomy and physiology and performance analysis. They will also then choose specialist modules relating to equine sport or human sport. As a Foundation Degree this course also includes a significant amount of industrial experience.
Stage one
At stage one students develop an understanding of human anatomy as well as techniques used to analyse performance. Coaching theories are analysed and students participate in a range of practical coaching activities. Topics related to maximising performance such as nutrition, training and fitness are also covered.
Stage two
At stage two students extend their understanding and knowledge of coaching techniques and develop an appreciation of sports psychology. Elite athlete lifestyle development is explored and students undertake an extended period of industrial experience.

Assessment
This course includes a wide variety of assessment methods including written work, presentations, practical project work and time constrained assessment. The assessment is continuous throughout the course.

A number of career opportunities are open to students completing this course. This might include acting as coaches to individuals and teams, sports development officers, roles within sporting organisations and work allied to the health professions.
