Course content
Innovation is central to this degree. This course looks at how to develop a business from a practical perspective. Success comes not only from business knowledge but also from personal attitude. We actively encourage students to develop an entrepreneurial spirit and attitude in their lives. Students benefit from a wealth of experience and knowledge among teaching staff, alongside our very own Enterprise Centre on campus. Students are able to take the entrepreneurial elements of the course as a joint subject, therefore enabling you to give your degree an entrepreneurial twist.
The programme is built around an entrepreneurial stream that runs through the three stages of the course. This explores key learning in business start-up, business growth and development, entrepreneurial skills, managing opportunities, starting an online business and entrepreneurial strategy.
Stage one
Stage one will give you a thorough grounding in business with subjects including opportunity, innovation and entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial skills development, marketing and social enterprise. The specialist entrepreneurship modules focus upon entrepreneurs and small business creation in the modern world.
Stage two
The entrepreneurship stream continues to form the main focus of study. Here you will explore the practicalities of business planning via the 'New Ventures' module, managing customers and clients, management skills development and explore cutting edge concepts in the 'Issues in Small Business and Entrepreneurship' module.
Stage three
Stage three further increases its focus on the study of entrepreneurship to a visionary perspective. Entrepreneurial strategies and innovations are explored across a wide range of opportunities. This then enables you to further explore, if you wish, your own enterprising ideas through your dissertation or to further understand small business practices through a consultancy project with an existing small business.

FAQ
How is a Business Entrepreneurship degree different to a Business Studies degree?
It is still a business degree, but, it specialises in small to medium sized enterprises (SMEs) rather than focussing on large. It is a fact most people work within SMEs, so this degree prepares you for the challenges associated with that type of business. It also encourages a more entrepreneurial and creative approach to business thinking.
Do I have to start my own business while on the course?
No. Some students do wish to and they are fully supported in doing so. But for many students the dream of one day owning their own business may be a way off yet. This degree helps you to explore and research different industries and helps you to work out the direction of your career whether this be working for a company or running it!
