Course content

This course examines the increasingly important and dynamic role that advertising and marketing communications plays within an organisation. In the world of brand interactivity, co-creation and consumer power, it is important to recognise that the role of advertising and marketing communications is constantly changing, due to come extent to advances in technology. Communications today is much more of a two way activity and organisations must stimulate and motivate their customers instead of just persuading them to buy their brand.

Stage one

In the first stage, students examine a broad range of marketing communication topics such as advertising, public relations, interactive marketing and sales promotion. They will learn how these tools work in influencing consumer behaviour and how they can be brought together to create an integrated campaign that builds strong brands.

Stage two

At stage two students will develop the skills to plan and create communications campaigns for a range of different products and services from schools to soft drinks. They will acquire knowledge and understanding of the structure and functions of the advertising industry and develop professional skills needed to operate effectively within it.

Stage three

In the final stage students have the opportunity to examine the impact that advertising and marketing communications have on society and globalisation. They may undertake an individual project which requires an in-depth study of a specific industry and also develop an understanding of certain aspects of consumer behaviour.
