Course content
The importance of the theories, concepts, principles and practices through which the functioning, management and development of people can occur is emphasised in this programme. Students will have the opportunity to study organisations in depth and appreciate the different roles that Human Resources (HR) practitioners and line managers may play in organisations as diverse as small businesses through to global corporations. This course is of considerable general vocational relevance, as an understanding of people and the enhancement of personal performance are key features of the requirements of employers in every field. It is designed for study by anyone with an interest in people, groups, teams and development.
A high proportion of the learning activities in this course involve undertaking group activities and projects designed to develop practical development skills in addition to the theoretical explorations offered throughout. Individual profiling and study is also an important feature of the learning approach of this course. Full use will be made of up-to-date case study scenarios from a variety of different contexts and situations including team sport, organisational case studies and non-profit organisations.
Stage one
Stage one core subjects are managing people and introduction to people in organisations. Students have options including business environment, business and computing skills.
Stage two
In stage two, minor students take managing human resources and labour market dynamics. Joint honours and major students take these plus options from strategic business analysis, employee selection and measurement, managing in organisations or reflective practice and inquiry.
Stage three
In stage three, all students take strategic human resource management. Majors students take this plus a dissertation. There are further option choices from employee relations, cross-cultural management, organisational change, developing people or critical perspectives in managing.

- Course tutors with relevant professional qualifications and business experience In the Joint Honours programme students select two subjects as joint for year one. Students may continue with equal emphasis on two subjects as a joint degree in years two and three, or switch to a major/minor split. The degree title is a derived from the two subjects.

Assessment
The assessments will include written assignments, personal development journal, learning logs, literature reviews, group presentations, reports and examinations.

As well as traditional careers in the field of HRM, opportunities exist for managing people in commercial organisations of all sizes and in the public sector such as the health service and local Government.
