This programme explores a range of mental health issues from an interprofessional and interdisciplinary perspective. Students will have the opportunity to examine contemporary topics in the mental health arena and explore how current research may inform and improve professional practice.

Attendance
Attendance on this course can be on a full-time or a part-time basis to allow students to combine work and study. For each module, students will need to attend six teaching days timetabled across one semester.Full-time students will normally study three modules (60 credits) per trimester and part-time students will study one module (20 credits) per trimester.

Entry requirements
It is envisaged that students wishing to access this award will have either successfully completed a related undergraduate programme or may be from a health or social care background and be wishing to engage in further personal or professional development. Applicants without a good Honours degree may be considered through the special admissions procedure.

Course content
The Masters award in mental health has evolved to meet the growing demands of people who wish to combine continuing professional development with further academic study. The award has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to share professional knowledge and insight in a multi-professional forum, reflecting on the place of their professional expertise and practice in relation to other disciplines contributing to healthcare.

Assessment
This programme will adopt a wide range of learning and teaching strategies across the modules. These include activity based workshops, learning support material, group and individual tutorials. The programme focuses on improving practitioners' knowledge, skills and experience through a critical analysis of work-based projects. Reflection and critical analysis are key components in helping students develop as practitioners through the programme.
Career opportunities
It is important to note that this course will not provide a clinical vocational qualification, it will however, offer enhanced career opportunities in management, education and advanced clinical work e.g. consultancy and research. This will be through the further development of transferable skills such as critical thinking, ethical decision making, evidenced-based practice, and greater awareness of the implications of policy developments for health and social care practice.

Fees quoted are for home and EU students commencing their course in the academic year 2012/13. Tuition fees are payable for each year of the course. The fees are subject to annual increases in subsequent academic years.
