Course content
This course aims to introduce students to a wide range of interactive digital media. Practical skills in interface design, digital photography and illustration, typography, sound formation and editing, 2D and 3D animation, moving image creation and post production manipulation will be gained using a wide range of professional computer software and related peripheral hardware. The course is biased towards the exploratory and creative with an emphasis on good design practice. Stage one is a general introduction to the disciplines associated with interactive digital media. In stage two, students will mainly focus on producing a professional show-reel for an end of stage show.
Interactive Digital Media will give prospective students the chance to experience leading edge design technologies within an arts-based environment. All of the modules are to be delivered within a vocational context, developing and underpinning knowledge of the theory and practice of new digital media creativity and production. The course is designed to deliver a broad sweep of digital media, which explores both the visual and audio digital environment. The animated and moving image medium will produce a sound base from which to explore a wide range of software, to include Flash suite, Maya Final Cut Pro and Adobe. Briefs are designed to allow a degree of interpretive freedom. There is a level of off-campus activity within a professional environment, working as a team member or directing an assignment. If your interest is in websites, interface design, animated image, sound formation and manipulative or interactive moving image and post-production techniques, IDM is the course for you.
