Course content
Marketing is no longer a business function. It is a way of doing business that places the consumer at the centre of all organisational activity. As such, it is the ideal subject to follow alongside others in a Joint Honours programme. Marketing can be combined with a number of other subjects including Web Design, Business Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Business, Events Management and Psychology.
This course is designed to appeal to two types of applicant: those wanting to pursue a career in marketing, but who wish to create a degree that incorporates other interests and those who wish to focus on another discipline whilst developing skills and knowledge in the area of marketing in order to increase their employability. Students taking marketing as a major subject will follow two marketing modules at stage one, three at stage two, and two plus a dissertation at stage three. The subject is also available as a Joint Honours minor subject.
Stage one
This stage introduces various aspects of marketing. You will study foundations of marketing theory, marketing communications, and will develop skills in critical analysis, business modelling and market research.
Stage two
Modules at stage two introduce tactical and strategic perspectives, placing more emphasis on analysis and planning. Designated modules at this stage offer the opportunity to study one or two specialist aspects of marketing in more detail.
Stage three
At stage three you will study Marketing Management and carry out a dissertation project. You may also choose to specialise in International Marketing or Customer Relationship Management.
