The role of a manager is often more varied and complex than non-managers realise. This course develops generic management skills and knowledge, and is designed to support other joint honours subjects, by providing a vocational element.

Course content
Students will have the opportunity to study managing people, managing money and managing operations and projects.
This course is intended to develop managerial skills in addition to knowledge. The three elements of knowledge are managing resources, managing people and the context and processes within which management is set.
Stage one
The main areas of study cover the development of management ideas and practices and business and computing skills. Options are available from a range of subjects in business and management such as entrepreneurship, accounting and business law.
Stage two
This stage focuses strongly on the development of personal competence as a way of exploring the impact of self on others. Students will also study management in an organisational context. Options from all main areas of business and management will be available, including strategic management, new ventures and managing human resources.
Stage three
Students examine the management of change with a range of option modules available, eg critical perspectives on managing, marketing, accounting and a dissertation.

- Membership of the University Student Management Society
- In the Joint Honours programme students select two subjects as joint for year one. Students may continue with equal emphasis on two subjects as a joint degree in years two and three, or switch to a major/minor split. The degree title is derived from the two subjects.

Assessment
A variety of individual and group assessments, which may involve reports, presentations, portfolios, and end-of-year exams.
Career opportunities
Management can be studied jointly or in combination with a range of other subjects, providing a managerial dimension that can develop and enhance employability. The achievement of this degree can lead on to further study such as Certificate/Diploma in Management Studies or an MA or MBA. All of these courses are offered by The University of Northampton.
