Course content
The course has been strategically designed to complement a range of other subjects, such as Sports Studies, Biological Conservation and Human Biology. A selection of these subjects along with Applied Equine Studies provides a balanced programme of study for students wishing to obtain a qualification in the area of applied science. This course provides graduates with a range of skills and abilities preparing them to enter into the equine industry both in the UK and abroad. The Equestrian Centre enables students to gain valuable hands-on experience in the day-to-day running of an equestrian yard and enables students to participate in the organisation of shows frequently held at the Centre. A vast array of possible extracurricular activities is offered to suit students at all stages, including help with preparation for British Horse Society (BHS) examinations.
The Joint Honours course in Applied Equine Studies is designed to be a component of many programmes of study. Two equine-related compulsory modules are studied at each stage.
Stage one
Students study two compulsory modules which include:
- Animal Anatomy and Physiology One
- Equine Therapies
Stage two
Students study two compulsory modules which include:
- Animal Anatomy and Physiology Two
- Equine Exercise Physiology
Stage three
Students study two compulsory modules which include:
- Equine Behaviour
- Equine Sports Injury and Therapy
Special course features
- The British Horse Society approved Equestrian Centre at Moulton College provides a unique learning experience
- Although riding is not part of the course, students are strongly encouraged to further develop their skills and qualifications

Assessment
This course includes a wide variety of assessment methods including written work, presentations, practical project work, examinations and time-constrained assessment.
Career opportunities
Employment opportunities arise in many areas and include feed industries, insurance companies with specialist equine departments, legal work and manufacturers and distributors of clothing and accessories within the UK and abroad.
