Course content
This two-year course is a nationally recognised qualification in the UK offering a broad-based and practical set of business modules. For the Foundation Degree award students must complete work-based modules and therefore need to secure suitable part-time work before studying. Students unsure about which course to study should apply for the HND Business so that they can transfer once suitable employment in the locality has been secured.
Throughout the programme emphasis is placed on the development and assessment of practical skills relevant to a wide range of business careers. Assignments and activities undertaken are designed to simulate real world situations.
The Foundation Degree course allows students to substitute a maximum of two class-based modules per year with work-based modules, allowing more time for the student to work in approved employment.
Stage one
In stage one, core subjects include human resource management, finance, marketing, business in context and enterprise and opportunity.
Stage two
In stage two, students build on many of the stage one modules. In addition emphasis is placed on student competencies as well as knowledge, for example, management skills development and the use of computer packages in accounting.
