Baroness Falkner of Margravine
Baroness Falkner of Margravine became a Life Peer in 2004. She currently serves on the House of Lords Constitution Select Committee, and since 2010 has chaired the Liberal Democrats House of Lords commitee on Foreign Affairs.
Over her parliamentary career, she has been a front bench spokeswoman on the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and the Department for Communities and Local Government. Her other parliamentary activities have included serving on committees scrutinising human rights, European Union foreign affairs, international development, defence and legal services. She also speaks on international terrorism and was a member of the Prime Minister’s ‘Taskforce on Muslim Extremism’ in 2005.
She is also a member of the British Steering Committee of the Anglo-German Koenigswinter Conference. She is additionally a Non-Executive Director of the Hyde Group, a housing association.
In September 2009, Baroness Falkner was awarded a Parliamentary Fellowship at St Antony’s College, University of Oxford and previously, in 2006, she was a Fellow at Harvard University’s Institute of Politics (John F Kennedy School of Government), where she concentrated on US Foreign Policy and Democracy in the Muslim world.
Prior to becoming a working Peer, Baroness Falkner worked as a Director of Policy for the Liberal Democrats. Her career has also included posts with the Political Affairs Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat and as Chief Executive of Students Partnership Worldwide.
